Reasons to attend our Wellbeing Sessions
Finding inner calm through nature connection helps reduce stress hormones in our bodies, such as adrenaline and cortisol, which can cause a number of health issues to develop over time, such as high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes.
Simply being in a woodland environment promotes calmness and relaxation that contributes to feeling revived and mentally restored and refreshed. The relaxation you can experience through connecting to nature during our woodland sessions can effectively reduce stress chemicals coursing through the body and instead deliver calm, positive feelings; wellbeing benefits that are reported by participants to remain with them beyond the woodland session.
I enjoy the peace and quiet, the tranquility and learning about the woodland and feeling more connected with it week by week. Just being there re-energises me and inspires me to do things back at home.
What goes on at our Wellbeing Sessions
Our Wednesday Woodland Wellbeing sessions involve gentle exercise and helping to care for the woodland environment, whether helping plant and care for young trees, or working as a team to create new habitat areas to increase the numbers of bird and insect species that choose to make the woodland their home.
The sessions are essentially about connecting with nature but there is an added benefit in that, over time, cultivating a deeper connection with nature promotes a deeper inner calmness that can help promote better sleep and emotional balance.
Being among trees promotes wellbeing
Spending time in woodlands to promote wellbeing is part of the national health service in Japan. We don’t have anything like that here in the UK, but scientific research from several Universities has demonstrated that spending 2 hours a week connecting with nature can deliver tangible health and wellbeing benefits. Spending time in a tranquil environment not only helps diminish stress and anxiety levels but has been shown to lower blood pressure and restore emotional equilibrium.
These sessions are for people over 18 years of age. Our objective in providing these Wednesday Woodland Wellbeing sessions is to introduce people to calming and nurturing activities, designed benefit both the biodiversity of the woodland and the wellbeing of the session participants.
We make a minimal charge of £3/person per session; a small contribution towards our insurance, first aid and refreshment overheads.
