Mindfulness outdoors
The tranquility and beauty of the natural world helps open both heart and mind
What we do
Our sessions introduce simple, sensory-based mindfulness techniques. These help people connect more deeply with the stillness that exists within the woodland, promoting relaxation and calmness of both body and mind. Through engagement with nature-based experiences, providing focus on the ‘here and now’, the mind can be made steady.
Our straightforward mindfulness exercises are simple to learn and can be used in everyday life, with the purpose of benefitting your wellbeing by developing greater awareness and insight into the effects of thoughts and emotions causing stress, anxiety or sadness.
Being mindful involves learning about self-compassion, being kind to yourself and learning practical ways to help address sufferering. With growing awareness and self insight lies ability to train the brain to ‘let go’ of thoughts causing unhelpful emotions.
Many people find it easier to engage with practicing mindfulness in a woodland setting, rather than being indoors. The sights, sounds and scents of nature help draw people into deeper connections with nature and ultimately themselves.
The benefits
In Japan, Forest bathing (spending time among trees) is prescribed to tackle stress, anxiety, high blood pressure and as an aid to recovery from illness.
Woodlands can give us what we need, just by spending time within the trees. Mindfulness exercises help to open the door to increased self-awareness into how we can benefit our relationship with ourselves, others and the wider world.
Practicing mindfulness in a woodland setting makes it easier to focus on the here and now because their is such a wealth of stimuli for the senses all around.
Being in a safe place and enjoying some ‘me time’, not worrying about the future but just enjoying the ‘present moment’, is a natural tonic. Learning to focus on the ‘here and now’ also helps train the brain to be able to ‘let go’ of unhelpful emotions and thoughts that are causing suffering.
We help people learn how to spend more time in the ‘present moment’ through involving them in simple mindfulness exercises designed to help fine-tune their natural senses, that also improves insight and self-awareness.
